Annuals & Perennials — what to plant viewed 315 times

we have a north/south facing house. The front yard gets morning shade and afternoon full sun hot summers. OKC area. The soil is some kind of red clay Impossible to dig in wether wet or dry. would appreciate any clues to gardening here regarding soil and what to plant and where.

I had red clay once, and you're right -- it's very difficult if you love gardening. The best thing you can do is to add lots of sand or compost to make the soil easier to dig in.

Plant perennials in the sun -- daylilies are always good in most any climate, and they need no pampering whatsoever. You can also plant roses and vines.

For shaded areas, you can plant many shrubs, but the flowers I grow in shade are foxgloves, forget-me-nots, and tuberous begonias. All of these are gorgeous, but the forget-me-nots can become fairly invasive and the begonias are not perennial.

I hope this helps you.
