Can some please tell me if Sevin insect spray is safe to use around cats. I found earwigs on my dahlias and I think that's what has been munching up the leaves and now they have their sights on the flowers too.. Problem is, I have 3 cats that go out into the garden. Is this a safe product around pets? If not, then what should I do about the earwigs?
When used according to label directions Sevin can be used around cats with minimal risk. The cats should not be in the area while Sevin is being applied and should not be allowed to return until the area has dried completely. If this is not possible, consider using pyrethrum and/or rotenone. These are botanical insecticides that rapidly degrade into organic compounds thereby reducing the risk of exposure to your cats. Always read and follow label precautions when using pesticides.
In regards to Rotenone. Be extremely careful with it. Although it breaks down quickly, it's a deadly stomach poison, and should be used wit the utmost care. Like bMoore says. Always follow lable directions!
